High Score Build

Once you can survive several minutes and level up multiple times per jump, the game changes. You stop thinking about the next rope and start thinking about the next level-up. This build takes that idea as far as it goes: it turns a run into an airborne score machine that barely touches the ground, then adds ropes and fire on top to multiply the payoff. It works best if you have already mastered the Beginner Build.

The route follows the strategies that player guides converge on. Random card offers change what is possible in any given run, so treat the exact order as a strong starting point rather than a law.

The Core Idea

The build has one job: keep Scarlet in the air by chaining level-ups. Because Rocket Shoes refill their fuel at each level-up, a build that levels up faster than its fuel runs out can stay aloft for a very long time. The mechanic and its diagnostics live in Rocket Shoes. This page is the route: what to take, in what order, and when to move to the next phase.

The Route at a Glance

Phase Goal Priority cards
1. Foundation Build airtime and experience income Jump Height, Luck, about two to four ropes
2. Ignition Get Rocket Shoes running Add Rocket Shoes, more Jump Height, Luck
3. Loop Chain several level-ups per jump Rocket Shoes stacking, Luck
4. Expansion Add ropes and safety Add Jump Rope, Reinforce
5. Payoff Multiply score Ignite, followed by Reinforce
6. Farming Squeeze out extra score Rope Speed, only if stable

When to Advance to the Next Phase

Do not move on by the clock. Move on when the build passes its check.

Phase Advance when If you cannot advance
1. Foundation You clear several loops in one jump and sometimes receive more than one card before landing Keep investing in height and Luck
2. Ignition You reach the next level-up before your fuel runs out Add Luck or Jump Height
3. Loop You go several level-ups without landing Strengthen the weakest ingredient
4. Expansion Adding a rope does not disrupt your timing, and shields are keeping up Pause ropes and take Reinforce
5. Payoff Several level-ups arrive per jump and every rope is shielded or expendable Stay in Expansion
6. Farming Nothing in the build is wobbling Do not take Rope Speed

Phase 1: Foundation

Focus on Jump Height and Luck, keep your rope count around two to four and do not worry about a large setup. The goal is to reach the point where you clear multiple loops in one jump and receive more than one card before landing. If you are not leveling multiple times per jump, keep investing in height and Luck before moving on.

Phase 2: Ignition

Take Rocket Shoes as soon as they appear and use them right after each level-up so the refill keeps you climbing. Keep stacking Jump Height and Luck, and do not spend cards on ropes yet, because every rope card is one that could have strengthened the loop.

Phase 3: The Loop

When upgrades arrive before the current fuel runs out, the cycle sustains itself, and landing becomes much less important than it was in the opening minutes. Stack Rocket Shoes heavily here. One player-written guide advises pausing height gains at a certain point and putting every pick into Rocket Shoes instead, because unchecked height can trigger the ending before you want it. The reported numbers are in The Ending.

Phase 4: Expansion

Once the loop is reliable, start adding ropes, because losing a rope matters less when upgrades arrive faster than losses. Take Reinforce whenever it is offered, and keep feeding Rocket Shoes, since upgrade costs rise and your fuel should not fall behind. More ropes also multiply Luck rolls, which feeds the loop further.

Phase 5: Payoff

With the loop working and shields in place, add Ignite, since each burning rope raises your score per jump. Safe fire depends on order:

  1. Check that plain ropes exist, or Ignite may burn through a shielded one.
  2. Take Reinforce immediately after Ignite.
  3. Do not take Ignite while you are about to land.
  4. Keep Extinguish as an emergency save.

The card behavior behind these rules is in Ropes & Fire.

Phase 6: Farming

Only when everything else is stable should you consider Rope Speed. It adds score per second but shrinks your margin for error, and most guides call it a late farming tool. Extra ropes give you the same difficulty with better safety, so prefer those.

Priority by Situation

If you have Take next
A weak experience engine Jump Height, Luck
No Rocket Shoes yet Rocket Shoes when offered
Rocket Shoes but an unstable loop More Jump Height and Luck
A stable loop and few ropes Add Jump Rope
Many ropes and few shields Reinforce
A stable loop and shields Ignite
Everything stable Rope Speed, cautiously

Risks to Manage

Risk What to watch
Accidental ending Extreme height can push Scarlet to the ceiling. Descend in controlled hops if you are not ready
Fire mistakes Ignite can burn through a shield when no plain ropes remain
Over-stacking Extreme stacks can cause levels to fire while frozen and altitude to glitch
Performance One player reported a crash around 200,000 loops on a weak laptop
Fatigue Score-cap runs can last over an hour

Session Planning

  • Use the level-up freeze for short breaks.
  • Set a stable frame rate before you start, using the FPS limit and VSync options in the settings.
  • Close background apps if your PC struggles.
  • Decide before the run whether you want a score or the credits, since the two routes conflict.

Recovery Plays by Phase

Phase Problem Recovery
Foundation You keep tripping on landings Pause ropes, take height and recalibrate
Ignition Fuel runs out early Save the fuel for just after a level-up and add Luck
Loop The loop collapses after a slow level-up Land safely, then take Luck or height and do not add ropes
Expansion A rope pick made your timing worse Take Reinforce or another defensive card next, and add no more ropes yet
Payoff Ignite burned through a shield Take Reinforce next, and take Extinguish if it is offered when you are about to land
Farming Rope Speed made runs unstable Stop taking it and add ropes and shields instead

Keep a Run Log

Improvement comes from comparing runs. After each attempt, record:

Item What to write
Final jump count The number on the counter when the run ended
Run length Roughly how long you survived
First Rocket Shoes Roughly when they appeared
Card order A short list of your picks
What ended the run The rope or event that got you

After a few runs the pattern is usually obvious: the same phase, the same card or the same kind of rope.

Score Route or Ending Route

The two goals pull in different directions. The score route wants fire and many ropes, while the ending route wants height, Luck and Rocket Shoes and avoids fire. Read The Ending before you commit.

Common Mistakes

  • Adding ropes before the loop works. More windows while the fuel is unstable is a recipe for a quick loss.
  • Igniting without a plan. Fire without shields is gambling.
  • Not watching altitude. You can end the run by winning it.
  • Forgetting to recalibrate. Faster level-ups change your rhythm.
